Inspirations from Belaringar and beyond
Tim Gratton has re-located to Dubbo. His artistic journey started whilst in the Royal Navy where he illustrated moments for the ‘Navy News’. After leaving the RN he studied fine art painting and drawing at the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, Netherlands in addition to post graduate studies at the Bath Academy of Fine Arts, Bath, England. He has exhibited in Australia, Austria, England, Hungary, and the Netherlands. He is well known around the world for his expertise and contribution to the art form body painting.
This exhibition is the result of many visiting to “Belaringar” a large rural property located on the western plains of New South Wales. Over a number of visits Tim observed the surrounding landscape as well as the changes brought about by the recent 2010 floods. This exhibition celebrates all those physical changes expressed in his own contemporary abstraction style!
Artist’s statement: Art can stimulate the imagination just as much as any external reality like fire a storm or thunder and yet art also expresses an internal reality of hope and philosophy. This expression provokes the imagination of the artist to make more art to add to the visible map of his mind. Art helps us to fully see that we are complex human beings., Tim says...The creation of art is paramount in my daily life; the opportunity to choose between drawing, applying paint to a canvas or on the body inspires me!
